Afyalead is one of healthtech company in tanzania, it was established in a year 2020 against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. At a time when maternal mortality rates soared across sub-Saharan Africa due to overwhelmed healthcare systems and disrupted services, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) through its Sub-Saharan Africa Ventures initiative organized a high-impact hackathon. This event brought together innovators, developers, clinicians, and entrepreneurs to tackle pressing gaps in maternal and neonatal health from emergency issues after covid 19 eruption.

Afyalead designed a platform to bridge the divide between rural communities, frontline health workers, and life-saving solutions. Since its inception, Afyalead has scaled rapidly, launching of innovative products and services designed to revolutionize healthcare delivery. Key offerings include Mkanda salama (solution to manage excessive loss of blood), maternal health whatsapp chatbots for remote consultations, mama salama delivery kits and a digital marketplace access to essential health products and medical supplies.
